At its first Unpacked event of the year, Samsung updated its audio equipment portfolio with the Galaxy Buds 4 series. They come in two variants – the base model Galaxy Buds 4 and the flagship Galaxy Buds 4 Pro – and have a fresh design language as well as some nice new features.
As for the price, the badeline Galaxy Buds 4 cost $179 while the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro cost $249 each. You can pre-order both from today. If you choose one from the Samsung Store, in addition to the white and black colors, you will also get the Pro version in rose gold.
On the surface
Samsung has redesigned the vanilla Galaxy Buds 4 with a smaller earbud head to match their open design, which is similar to the entry-level AirPods. To stand out, Samsung flattened the stem and gave it a metallic look, while moving gesture controls to the sides.
With the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, you get a design inspired by the AirPods Pro thanks to their angled in-canal architecture with rubberized ear tips. But here too, you get a two-tone design with an exposed vent and a transparent charging case that supports wireless power transfer.
Another notable advantage is that as long as you have a Galaxy smartphone in your hands, you don’t need to install an app to access its core features. However, if you’re pairing a different brand of Android phone or an iPhone, you’ll need to install the Galaxy Wearable app. Similar to the AirPods, the earbuds also support head gestures for handling calls and notifications.
What’s in it for your ears?
Samsung says it has equipped the Buds 4 series with larger drivers, with the Pro model getting a wider woofer to amplify sound vibrations thanks to slimmer edges on the periphery. These architectural changes open the doors to immersive 24-bit/96 kHz audio transmission for high-fidelity listening experience.
In its latest earbuds, the company also touts the benefits of Enhanced ANC, which is said to offer improved noise isolation. Plus, there’s a new Enhanced Adaptive ANC/EQ feature that adapts sound output to the unique ear canal shape and sound sensitivity of each person’s ears.
Then there’s the Super Clear Call feature, which is based on super wideband calling technology to double the bandwidth of call signals and ensure the audio is clear. Samsung says audio on the Buds 4 Pro will “sound like you’re talking face to face.”
