In a teaser released last week, R.A.M. strongly suggests that it will reveal something new 1500 TRX on January 1, 2026.
The video (below), in which desert sand blows in the wind and the faint sound of a supercharged V8 engine can be heard in the distance, ends with the slogan “The power is reborn.” The description reads: “Desert winds don’t whisper…they roar. Get ready. 01/01/26”
We know that Ram is preparing a new TRX – pronounced T-Rex – with Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa already confirming its existence, if not the timing. In a conference call in July, Mr. Filosa said: “The V8 engine in versions (of our pickup trucks) such as the Ram 1500 TRX will provide us with additional volumes but also accredited margins per unit.”

With the fifth-generation 1500 facelift, which debuted in the U.S. in 2023, Ram replaced its long-standing Hemi V8 engines with the more powerful and fuel-efficient twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six.
As part of the facelift, the Hemi-powered 1500 TRX was dropped from the lineup, and the RHO indirectly replaced it as Ram’s off-road flagship, if not performance flagship. The RHO uses the same ‘high performance’ variant of the 402kW/706Nm 3.0-litre Hurricane engine as the Limited model.
The removal of the V8 engines from the 1500 series was reportedly pushed by former CEO Carlos Tavares and was one of many moves that caused widespread unrest among dealers and customers in North America.
Following his resignation at the end of 2024 and the reappointment of Tim Kuniskis as CEO of Ram, the brand confirmed in June 2025 that it would bring back V8 engines.
“Everyone makes mistakes, but how you deal with them defines you. Ram screwed up when we dropped the Hemi – it’s ours and we fixed it,” Mr. Kuniskis said at the time.
“We’re not just bringing back a legendary V8 engine, we’re launching an assertive product roadmap and expanding powertrain choice for our customers.”
Before its discontinuation, the 1500 TRX was powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8 engine producing 531kW and 881Nm. In Australia, the TRX’s price before on-road costs was around $225,000.
Although V8 models can now be found alongside six-cylinder variants in Ram’s North American showrooms, Hemi-powered pickups have yet to return to our homeland, and the local dealer has ruled out V8 models for now.
