The Nissan Aura Nismo RS Concept previews the track-ready hybrid hot hatch

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 hosted the unveiling of the Nissan Auro Nismo RS concepta sporty widebody version of the brand’s hybrid hatchback available on the Japanese market.

Nissan says the Auro Nismo RS show car was “designed as a technical validation exercise,” although the company is “exploring the potential to bring this concept to market as a production car.”

Based on the Japanese-market Aura Nismo RS AWD, a hybrid competitor to the Toyota Yaris, the Nismo RS Concept features 145mm wider fenders and a 20mm reduction in ride height for a lower center of gravity and a more aggressive silhouette.

Additionally, aerodynamics have been improved with improvements to the front spoiler and side skirts, as well as a rear diffuser with Nismo’s signature red accents. The front fenders, as well as the side air distributors and the raised rear spoiler, are designed to optimize flow.

Underneath the reinforced bodywork is a more powerful e-Power series hybrid system from the JDM-spec Nissan

The 106kW/250Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine under the bonnet only powers an inverter to generate power for the electric motors. The Nismo-tuned hybrid system offers greater rear-wheel drive distribution for a more dynamic driving experience.

Braking performance has also been improved with four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers sitting behind 18-inch Nismo LM GT4 alloy wheels shod with grippy 245/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 performance tires.

Unfortunately, Nissan hasn’t announced any performance figures for the Aura Nismo RS, but it’s said to be a good bit faster than the standard Aura Nismo, which in AWD version has a 100kW/300Nm electric motor at the front and a 60kW/150Nm unit at the rear.
