Mitsubishi is launching an electric SUV in Australia in the second half of 2026, which is expected to be based on it: the new one Foxtron Bria.
The Bria was launched in Taiwan as a production version of the FoxtronModel B Concept.
Mitsubishi previously confirmed plans for a new, unnamed electric SUV made in collaboration with Taiwan’s Foxtron, a joint venture between iPhone maker Foxconn and automaker Yulon, and said it would launch here this year.

Designed by Pininfarina, the compact Bria has a wheelbase of 2800 mm and is 4315 mm long, 1885 mm wide and 1535 mm high. This makes it similar in size to the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV SUVs.
In Taiwan, where order books are now open, the Bria is offered in three model levels starting at NT$899,000 (A$42,650), with the top trim priced at NT$1,149,000 (A$54,507).
Prices overlap with the petrol-powered Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which will end production in Australia in 2025, and which starts at NT$1,105,000 (A$52,420) in Taiwan.
The entry-level Bria Elegant and mid-range Bria Emerge feature a 171kW single-motor rear-wheel drive with 18-inch alloy wheels and 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds.
Both have the same claimed range of 516 km (NEDC) with a 57.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
The top-of-the-line Pioneer uses the same battery but has a second motor to give it all-wheel drive. Its 299 kW output enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a range of 466 km (NEDC) on 20-inch light alloy wheels.
DC charging with up to 134 kW enables the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.
The Bria is offered in six colors: white, black, gray, red, blue and green. There are also four dual-tone color options: white, red and green with a black roof, while blue with a white roof can be chosen.
The cabin comes standard with black cloth upholstery, but can be optionally available in white on the Emerge and Pioneer. All models come standard with a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch center touchscreen.
Wireless smartphone charging is standard. The midsize Emerge features ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic moonroof and a power liftgate.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Foxtron also makes a second production electric vehicle, the larger Model C SUV, known as the Luxgen N7 in Taiwan.
Despite being strong in hybrid models, Mitsubishi still lacks an electric vehicle in Australia, despite being an early pioneer with the city-sized i-MiEV, which was briefly sold here in the early 2010s.
Last year, local trademark applications were filed for the ASX GT-e and ASX VR-e nameplates, which could be placed on the Foxtron SUV.
At the end of 2025, the automaker strengthened its after-sales offering, with sales falling 17.9 percent and the company falling one place to sixth overall, overtaken by Hyundai.
The local office also announced a new CEO: Shunichi Kihara will take over on January 5, 2026, following Shaun Westcott’s resignation last September.
Mr Westcott blamed the lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country for slower-than-expected EV adoption in Australia and said the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), introduced in 2025, would not increase EV adoption.
The NVES has forced manufacturers to keep the carbon dioxide emissions of their new car pallets below set limits, otherwise violations face financial penalties. The permitted amount of carbon dioxide will be reduced annually until 2029.
