The 2027 Cupra Born EV facelift was announced ahead of its unveiling in March

Cupra teased the updated one Born Electric Vehicle (EV), quite a long time after the initial preview.

The small electric hatch is scheduled to be unveiled on March 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. European time.

Unveiled via a series of silhouette images and videos, the new Born adopts the revised design elements of the brand’s latest models – such as the Tavascan, Terramar and the facelifted Formentor and Leon models – including a full-width LED taillight bar with an illuminated Cupra logo in the middle.

Additionally, the Spanish brand’s triangular LED signature motif will be used front and rear, with new Matrix LED headlights confirmed for the first time on the compact electric vehicle. Cupra also promises that the new Born will bring “eye-catching design, improved interiors and more technology.”

We may have already seen the updated Born well in advance, as the photo above was leaked from the internal Unstoppable Impulse event in 2022, which also saw the facelifted Formentor and Leon years before their respective launches.

The updated Born gets the new “Shark Nose” design language that has become commonplace across the wider Cupra range, led by the distinctive triangular signature on the LED daytime running lights.

Like other mid-life facelifts in the sporty Spanish brand’s portfolio, the updated Born is expected to bring higher quality interior trim and finishes to the revised design, with Cupra’s media release promising “higher perceived quality”. It is unclear whether there will be a loss in performance or range.

Further details will be confirmed at next week’s global reveal, but as the Born was last offered in Australia, the pre-facelift model range was expanded to include the brand’s latest infotainment suite with improved usability for climate controls (including illuminated touch sliders), and the powerful Born VZ introduced the VW Group’s latest battery and electric drive systems.

It’s unclear if and when we’ll see the updated Born in Australia, as the brand’s local division has promised and subsequently delayed the 240kW VZ version numerous times since its release, most recently scheduled for early 2026.

Daily Sparkz Now it is known that Cupra Australia is waiting for the facelifted model to complete a full reboot of the Born nameplate Down Under, led by the VZ Halo with lower variants potentially returning after a two-year hiatus. We have reached out to Cupra’s local office for further comment.

The Cupra Born was last offered in a single variant in Australia and currently offers two battery options and two drive motor options, with the longest range version offering over 550km between charges according to WLTP testing.

The last Born sold Down Under featured the pre-fitted 77kWh lithium-ion battery and the most powerful 170kW/310Nm rear electric motor at the time, although the range has since moved to a larger 79kWh battery, while the VZ boosts output to 240kW and 545Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds possible.
