According to Subaru, the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) works very similarly to Volkswagen Group’s well-documented Emergency Assist.
If the driver no longer reacts while driving, EDSS brings the vehicle to a “controlled stop and at the same time warns other road users”.
To activate the new safety feature, the lane centering function, which is also standard, must be active.
While the Crosstrek is now available in Japan with an S:HEV “Strong Hybrid” system that adopts Toyota technology, the more efficient powertrain is not yet confirmed for the Australian market.
Subaru Japan has made the ‘e-Boxer’ powertrain on the Australian market ‘Crosstrek Hybrid’ models the standard powertrain option in the domestic market, with the S:HEV leading the range.
The latest Forester was recently launched with the new S:HEV system, replacing the previous Forester Hybrid, which used the same mild-hybrid 2.0-liter “E-Boxer” powertrain as the Crosstrek.
As before, the Crosstrek AWD 2.0 models are powered by a 115kW/196Nm 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder engine driving all four wheels, while the Crosstrek AWD Hybrid range gets a less powerful 100kW/182Nm 2.0-litre boxer engine with a 12.3kW/66Nm electric motor powered by a small Lithium-ion battery is powered.
All are equipped with Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission and have combined fuel consumption of 7.2L/100km and 6.5L/100km respectively.
