We already know that Ted Lasso season 4 is happening, and waiting for it is the hardest part. While production is underway, Jason Sudeikis will return to Richmond in full Ted mode, and fans have been wondering how long they’ll have to wait.
The latest teaser so far comes from Warner Bros. Television boss Channing Dungey, who confirmed that filming is underway and that the team is actively discussing a mid-year release in 2026 (via Stuff).
There is no set date from Apple yet, but the internal expectation is sometime from the second quarter. In plain language, this means that Ted Lasso season 4 will take place somewhere between late spring and summer of next year.
Why the middle of 2026 suddenly feels very real
A mid-year release would fit right in with Ted Lasso’s current plans. Both previous seasons arrived in the warmer months, with Season 1 landing in August 2020 and Season 2 following in July 2021.
This release schedule also places the show squarely around the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Regardless of whether Ted Lasso returns during the tournament or shortly after the tournament ends, the timing would give Apple TV a huge sporting edge.
The fourth season of Ted Lasso will also feel different. The story will reportedly focus on the creation of a women’s team at AFC Richmond, which explains the influx of new cast members and the longer development period.
Many viewers felt that Ted Lasso had already told a complete story, a concern even echoed by Brett Goldstein, who once compared the idea of a fourth season to bringing a cat back to life. However, rather than simply expanding the original arc, the show now appears to be expanding its world.
The hope is that Ted Lasso can recreate his magic by shifting the focus to a new group of characters this time. But next season needs to show significant growth, as simply revisiting familiar beats may not be enough this time.
