The restomod industry – which restores and modifies older cars using the latest technology – has exploded in recent years due to the success of companies such as: B. explodes symbol And Singer.
Australia now has its own restomod outfit known as reborn, offers buyers the opportunity to enjoy the classic features of the elderly Porsche 911 models – but with the addition of modern luxury, technology and performance.
After building a successful law firm in Canberra, Jason Wenning fell in love with the Porsche 911 platform and the restomod community and so he founded Wiedeborne – which means “reborn” in German – to target the enthusiast community in Australia.
With the help of Mark Poole, a former professional racing driver and Porsche specialist in Adelaide, Wiedeborne chose his first car based on a 1979 Porsche 911SC.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter flat-six engine from the 964 – bored out from 3.6 liters – rebuilt using many OEM components, but with bespoke internals, drilled heads, bespoke camshafts, individual throttle bodies and a ceramic-coated bespoke exhaust – all controlled by a Motec computer.
The rear wheels are driven via a reinforced 915 five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential, braking power comes from the Porsche Boxster and the shock absorbers from Koni.
In conversation with Car Expert, Manufacturer Mark said the engine has an output of between 225 and 260 kW – although the torque in the low to medium speed range primarily ensures driving pleasure.
The Reborn has been built and rebuilt several times over the last eight years to make every detail “perfect”. Now it’s been unveiled to the public, with leather and tartan seats handmade in the UK, bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels from Canada and handcrafted body panels.
“In Australia we have a lot of tired (Porsche 911) 3.2s… and I wanted a hotrod 911, and I wanted to combine a bit of hotrod with a bit of comfort,” Mr Wenning said Car Expert, Explains the difference between the Reborn and other Restomod 911s.
“964s are hard to find. There are a lot more chassis for the 3.2 (available), so there are a lot more donor cars (than 964s locally), so we could probably make more of them,” he said.
Mr Wenning also said the G-Series 911 – built in the 1970s to late 1980s – also allowed the build team to create much wider rear wheel arches to accommodate deep-dish wheels.
“I’ve always loved my Porsches, and I’ve always loved things that are a little bit unique, but when you find a factory car that’s unique, you don’t want to put (mileage) on it – so in the end it just stays,” Mr Wenning said.
“The idea was to get out and ride it – you can ride it every day if you want – don’t worry about how many (miles) you get on it.”
Reborn plans to build a total of 10 vehicles and says each vehicle will be customized to the owner’s specifications, with each build costing $1.265 million – plus the price of a G-Series donor car.
