Go to Australia has quietly announced prices and initial details for the brand new model EV4 sedan at the weekend with the Korean Tesla Model 3 Fighter at launch for an impressive $49,990 plus on-road costs.
Three variants will be available from launch – Air, Earth and GT-Line – with standard range and long range batteries also available depending on the trim level.
The EV4 Standard Range offers a WLTP-certified range of 456 km with its 58.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, while the Long Range increases this to 612 km thanks to a larger 81.4 kWh battery.
Regardless of the battery, all versions of the Kia EV4 in Australia are powered by a front-mounted 150kW/283Nm electric motor, delivering 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.4 seconds in standard range and 7.8 seconds in long range.

The nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 29 to 31 minutes with a 350 kW fast charger, or in 55 to 79 minutes with a 50 kW DC charger.
Using an 11kW AC charger, the Standard Range can charge from 10 to 100 percent in 5 hours and 20 minutes, while the Long Range takes 7 hours and 15 minutes. The efficiency, however, is given as 14.3 kWh/100 km for the standard range and 14.9 kWh/100 km for the long range.
Compared to key rivals, the EV4 Air Standard Range is about 60 km behind the Tesla Model 3 RWD in range and is about 1.0 second slower to 100 km/h – although it is also $5,000 cheaper. The BYD Seal Dynamic is more or less on par with the EV4 in terms of performance and range, but is $3,000 cheaper than its Korean competitor.
All EV4 variants feature the integrated panoramic display – with two 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, as well as a 5.0-inch digital climate panel – as well as Kia Connect services with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an interior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) connection and Kia’s semi-autonomous Highway Driving Assist 2 system Lane change assistant.
The EV4 Air’s 17-inch alloy wheels are upgraded to 19-inch wheels on the Earth and GT Line, with the flagship adding amenities such as an intelligent front lighting system (or adaptive LED headlights and high beams), premium fully reclining seats, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and Kia’s blind-spot monitor and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
The EV4 sedan range in Australia almost mirrors that of the smaller EV3 crossover, but doesn’t offer an Air Long Range like its smaller stablemate.
Regardless, the EV4 costs about $1,300 more than the equivalent EV3 and offers more range thanks to its more aerodynamic sedan body style.
There is an EV4 Hatch on the European market, but while the EV4 Sedan is produced in South Korea for Australia, the EV4 Hatch is built at the brand’s Slovakian factory.
Although a market launch in Australia is not completely ruled out, higher manufacturing and freight costs as well as unfavorable exchange rates remain factors in establishing a local business model for the EV4 Hatch. This also applies to the upcoming GT performance flagship, which was recently presented at the Brussels Motor Show.
The 4730 mm long and 1860 mm wide EV4 sedan is roughly the same size as the K4 sedan, which is currently only offered with a combustion engine. It’s also 10mm longer than a Tesla Model 3, while being 73mm narrower with a 55mm shorter wheelbase.
