Price and specifications of the Jaecoo J5 EV 2026: Small SUV outperforms competitors by thousands

There’s yet another small electric SUV in town, this time in the form of the Jaecoo J5 EV.

The J5 EV is based on the same platform as the Chery E5 and will be available in a single trim level priced at $35,888 (before driving costs) or $36,990 (for the first 1,000 people to place an order) excluding driving costs.

As such, it will compete with other affordable compact electric vehicles including the Leapmotor B10, BYD Atto 2, Kia EV3, Hyundai Kona Electric, Zeekr X and MG S5 EV, all of which are more expensive than the Jaecoo.

However, the J5 EV isn’t the cheapest electric SUV on the market, as that title remains with the smaller Atto 2 ($31,990 before on-road costs).

Like the related E5, the J5 EV features a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. Both produce 155kW, although the J5 EV (288Nm) has less torque compared to its cousin (340Nm). Power is provided by a 58.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Omoda Jaecoo claims an electric range of 402 km in the WLTP cycle and an energy consumption of 14.3 kWh/100 km. A 30-80 percent charge on a DC fast charger reportedly takes 28 minutes.

Jaecoo promotes the J5 EV as a pet and child-friendly vehicle and attributes this label to the unique interior upholstery with a durable silicone coating.

The J5 range will be further expanded in 2026 with the introduction of turbo petrol and hybrid variants, both of which will sit below the electric version in Jaecoo’s range.
