Polestar announces an influx of new models, including a more practical SUV

Polestar has announced a rush of new electric vehicles (EVs), including a new generation Polestar 2 and a more practical version of its best-seller, the Tesla Model Y-Rivalling Polestar 4.

The Scandinavian car brand speaks of the “biggest model offensive in its history”, with four new models coming onto the market in three years. Polestar says it is targeting the heart of the market, “where customer demand and profit margins are high.”

Following the launch of the new Polestar 5 Grand Tourer, due to arrive in Australia in mid-2026 and priced from $171,100 before launch, the Geely-owned electric car brand says it will begin delivering a “new variant” of the Polestar 4 in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2026.

A new generation of the long-standing Polestar 2 Liftback will follow in 2027 and its smallest SUV to date, the Polestar 7, in 2028.

Polestar says the new Polestar 4 variant will appeal to a “broader customer base by offering more versatility” and that it will combine “the space of a station wagon and the versatility of an SUV,” recalling Sweden’s tradition of station wagon building.

A teaser image appears to show a rear window and a more upright tailgate.

Spy images posted on Weibo and shared on Reddit give us a better look at the as-yet-unnamed Polestar 4 variant, which features a more conventional SUV silhouette than the existing fastback-style midsize SUV.

Crucially, it also has a rear window – unlike the existing Polestar 4, which is made of sheet metal where a window would normally be, forcing the driver to rely on cameras and the wing mirrors to see behind.
