Planning a half bathroom – a few models

Yesterday I presented two different options for wallpaper for the studio bathroom and the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the colorful squares. I was really happy about this because this wallpaper just makes me smile. I completely understand that it’s probably too much for some people, but for color lovers like me, it’s just right.

Since I don’t work on Wednesdays, I didn’t do anything in the bathroom yesterday. The actual work begins today. But I had some time last night and this morning to make some models based on your suggestions. I enjoyed trying out some of these different ideas. Keep in mind that these are just quick mockups that I created with my photo editing software, so they are a bit rough. But they at least give us an idea of what these different combinations might look like in the finished space.

First, I tried the idea of leaving the ceiling and wainscoting white and painting the vanity the dark eggplant color that’s on the bathroom door. I really like how this looks.

Next I tried keeping the ceiling and wainscoting white and using the green from the back entry walls for the vanity. I didn’t get the green quite right, but it’s close enough for a model.

I also tried the idea of leaving the ceiling white but painting the wainscoting the green of the back entry walls and the vanity the dark eggplant shade of the bathroom door. I really like that too.

From there I started trying out some more daring looks. I tried the idea of leaving the ceiling white but using the studio cabinet color for the wainscoting and the eggplant color for the vanity. As much as I love color, this might actually be too much for me.

Several people mentioned the idea of saturating the ceiling, trim, and parts of the walls that aren’t wallpapered with paint, so I tried that idea with the green of the back entrance. Again, I couldn’t get the green exactly right, but it’s close enough for a model.

And then I decided to try the most daring option – the color of the studio cabinet. I obviously love this color since I painted all of my cabinets this color, but the thought of using so much of it in such a small space gives me pause. I think I would actually love it when it’s finished, but I might be too scared to actually try it.

And finally, a few people suggested using the wallpaper on the ceiling and then saturating the rest of the room with a color, so I tried green. It’s the only color I can imagine in this way. Honestly, I don’t like the idea of the wallpaper just hanging on the ceiling. For me that might be a bit blah. (Ignore the “reflection” of the wallpaper in the mirror. Of course, if the wallpaper is on the ceiling, it won’t be reflected in the mirror like that.)

Anyway, these were fun ideas to try. I’m not quite sure which direction to go with the ceiling and unpapered walls. Right now I’m only sure that the colorful square wallpaper will be used on the upper walls, and I’m about 95% sure I’ll use the eggplant color for the vanity. The rest will come together when I start working on the space.

UPDATE: I’m adding another option based on a suggestion from the comments – an eggplant vanity and the lightest purple of the wallpaper on the wainscoting.
