After OnePlus officially refuted claims of the company’s “dismantling”, we have come across a new rumor about the company’s upcoming compact flagship – the OnePlus 15T – regarding its camera setup.
According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station (via Weibo), a “small screen phone with Snapdragon 8E5 is ready,” translated from simplified Chinese. This phone, believed to be the OnePlus 15T, could feature a dual-camera setup “with a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens.”
The battery gain could dwarf a similar camera setup
We already know that the OnePlus 13T (or the OnePlus 13S in India) has a 50MP Sony IMX890 (f/1.8, 1/1.56″) primary sensor and another 50MP (f/2.0, 1/2.76″) secondary sensor paired with a 2x optical zoom lens.
Based on my limited experience with the phone, I found the camera to be above average. Crisp images with a wide dynamic range are captured in daylight, while photos in low light appear processed. The telephoto lens lacks optical image stabilization, which makes portrait photography quite difficult.
On the front, the OnePlus 13T has a 16 MP selfie camera (32 MP on the OnePlus 13S), which also takes decent pictures. Therefore, it looks like the OnePlus 15T will carry over its entire camera setup from the previous model, with or without minor changes to the bezel or sensor size or the addition of an ultrawide camera.
The tipster also mentions that the handset “offers the largest battery capacity for a small screen.” This confirms previous rumors about the 6.3-inch phone with a 7,000 to 7,500 mAh battery. And that’s most likely the case since both the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R have huge batteries (7,300 mAh and 7,400 mAh respectively).
In the past, OnePlus has kept its compact flagships out of the US market. Last year’s OnePlus 13T and OnePlus 13S also didn’t make it to the other side of the Pacific.
Recently, an Indian tipster claimed that the OnePlus 15S (the Indian version of the OnePlus 15T) is being discontinued. While I won’t be holding my breath over the OnePlus 15T, I’m still keeping an eye on the phone’s launch in China in case there’s a surprise for US buyers.
