After confirming the manual-equipped Fairlady Z Nismo MT, Nissan has confirmed that several more new vehicles will be showcased at its stand at the Tokyo Auto Salon starting this Friday (January 9).
The first is a new “Nismo Concept Model” that was teased with a shadowy close-up of its rear end, suggesting a widebody design based on one of its production models.
Although not officially confirmed, the taillight design suggests a wild version of the Japanese-market Nissan Note Aura hatchback, which already comes in a tamer Nismo road version.

Until the Nismo concept is revealed and detailed at the Tokyo event, it is unclear whether the modifications to the Note Aura will be purely cosmetic or also performance-oriented.
In Japan, the Note Aura Nismo is only available with Nissan’s e-Power series hybrid powertrain, although the Nismo version introduced a Nismo-tuned dual-motor all-wheel drive version that produces an additional 10kW of power and 50Nm of torque.
The Nissan Note Aura e-Power has a 1.2-litre 60kW/103Nm petrol engine under the bonnet that doesn’t mechanically drive the wheels. Instead, as with all Nissan e-Power vehicles, it acts as a generator for the (100kW/300Nm) electric motor that drives the front wheels, and on the AWD variants there is an additional electric motor at the rear.
In the standard version, the rear electric motor produces 50kW and 100Nm, while the Nismo AWD versions offer 60kW/150Nm.
The widebody Nismo concept could signal the Japanese brand’s intention to use the Note Aura and/or e-Power technology in motorsports – but we’ll have to wait until the end of this week to find out.
Nissan has also confirmed that two more show cars based on production models will debut in Tokyo later this week.
The Nissan
Key changes include “a tailored, rugged exterior and interior, waterproof seats and attractive outdoor accessory packages to support camping trips.” More will be revealed this week.
The second new model is the Nissan Leaf Autech, based on the latest version of the Japanese brand’s groundbreaking EV nameplate. Like the existing Autech-badged model range in Japan, the Leaf Autech features “sporty yet luxurious exterior and interior materials” that give it a very different look.
The new Nissan models will be on display alongside the updated Nissan Z, shown for the first time in the new Nismo MT guise, and preview the Z’s “new design styling aimed at improving aerodynamic performance.”
Also on display at the Nissan stand at the Tokyo Auto Salon will be a specially restored Nissan March purchased by Kondo Racing team director Masahiko “Matchy” Kondo, as well as the 2016 Motul Autech GT-R race car in honor of driver Tsugio Matsuda’s retirement from the Japanese Super GT motorsport series.
