Nissan has announced that it will double the number of vehicles in its performance division, Nismo, with plans to offer 10 models for global markets.
After years of management controversies and financial difficulties, Nissan announces it will refocus on both motorsports and performance cars.
“As part of the Re:Nissan product strategy, ‘Heartbeat Models’ are key to igniting emotions and defining Nissan’s brand DNA,” the company said in a written statement.
While the Z is currently the only model on sale in Australia that is available as a Nismo special, the automaker offers Nismo versions of the Ariya, Note Aura, X-Trail and Patrol in overseas markets.

Company executives have publicly expressed their desire to expand the Nismo lineup in the past, specifically mentioning the Z Coupe, Patrol SUV and GT-R – with a new generation of the high-performance halo coupe expected in the coming years.
However, with Nissan introducing the electric Micra based on the Renault 5, it is possible that a sporty Nismo version based on the Alpine A290 is in the works.
Another possibility is this Nissan Navara, The company admitted in late 2024 that it was considering a Nismo variant for the new-generation ute – although it is not clear whether this would overlap with the Pro4-X Warrior, which is being developed by Australian firm Premcar and sold through Nissan dealers.
It’s a similar story with the Patrol Nismo, with the model probably being considered for Australia – but potentially stepping on the toes of the locally developed off-road patrol warrior.
Aside from the GT-R, Micra and Navara, it’s not clear who else will get the Nismo treatment – although Nissan global CEO Ivan Espinosa has publicly expressed his desire to revive the 200SX, also known as the Silvia.
The announcement coincides with Nissan luxury brand Infiniti’s plans to introduce a new high-performance sub-brand.
