The armchair I ordered for the bedroom arrived yesterday. It’s about three weeks later than the estimated delivery date, but it was totally worth the wait. I was so nervous about this chair because I chose the fabric from a pretty little pattern. My biggest worry was that it would be too blue, but it turned out perfect. Everything about it is perfect – the size, the color, the comfort.
This is the second piece I have ordered from Interior Define and both are fantastic. And I chose performance velvet because the fabric holds up very well to cat claws. We have had our living room sofa, which is also upholstered in performance velvet, for 3.5 years. Felicity tried scratching the sofa and it held up perfectly. She couldn’t do any damage to the fabric in 3.5 years and finally gave up. So I know that she can’t destroy this either.
Even though I had measured the area about ten times and even taped off the dimensions of the chair with painter’s tape, I also held my breath until I got the chair in place so I could see with my own eyes that it would fit in the corner. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the chair is quite large. They have a smaller one, but I was sure I had room for the larger one.
And there’s plenty of space to sit back too.
There are two reclining positions, but I can’t imagine I’ll ever be able to fully recline while sitting here. I just want to be able to put my feet up while reading. So there is a lot of room and space left in this position.
As soon as the recliner arrived yesterday afternoon, I went online and started looking for a floor lamp that would fit in the available space. After looking at about 50 different options on several websites, I finally settled on this one from Amazon (affiliate link). The good thing about this product is that it was available with overnight delivery, so it was on our porch when I woke up this morning.
I chose this model because I liked the bow, the smaller shade and the color of the shade. I didn’t want a strong white tone. But I wasn’t entirely sure what I would get with a floor lamp for under $50. Overall I’m pretty happy with it, although I was a bit taken aback when I realized I actually had to assemble the lampshade. I was expecting to have to assemble the lamp, but I don’t think I’ve ever purchased a light that required mounting to the actual lampshade. There are these clips that attach to the rings, and while it works quite well, in a few places around the rings you can see these slight creases (bottom arrow) and in this one place it looks like a dent (top arrow). It’s actually not a dent. When the fabric is caught in the rings like this, it’s just impossible to pull it tight enough to make it completely flat.
Additionally, if you’ve ever purchased gold spray paint, you know that there are two types of gold finish. The first (and preferred) type is the type that actually looks metallic. The second is the one that doesn’t look metallic up close but looks more like a gold glittery finish. The second is the finish of this lamp.
But even from just a few meters away, you don’t really notice the golden glitter effect. It looks good and I’m actually quite happy with it, especially for the price. I also liked that this lamp has the switch at the top of the light and it is also dimmable. Today, many floor lamps have an on/off button attached to the cord and located on the floor. I hate those. So this one will work fine. I really wish I could figure out how to get rid of that one area on the lampshade that looks like a dent. I can’t rotate the shade to hide it because then the seam will show. I think I just need to work with it a bit more and then I might be able to smooth out this area better.
Anyway, now that the chair is here and I can see that I like everything about it, I feel really motivated to get everything else done. I’ve made a decision about this wall and how I want to deal with the breaker box and TV, so stay tuned. But first things first. I want to finish and hang my curtains and I’m really hoping to get them done this weekend.
