Morgan celebrates a quarter of a century of partnership with BMW.
Known for its classically inspired sports cars that combine traditional craftsmanship with timeless driving pleasure, Morgan Motor Company is an icon of the automotive industry. Its latest era consists of a new Plus Four model powered by a BMW engine, marking the return of the Plus Four nameplate to the U.S. market for the first time in the early 2000s. However, Morgan’s partnership with BMW dates back to 2000, and the historic manufacturer is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the technical partnership by highlighting the many cars that have resulted from it.
Morgan assembled a series of 14 BMW-powered Morgans for the first time, ranging from the Aero 8 through to Morgan’s latest models. The partnership began with the Aero 8 in 2000, which had a BMW M62 4.4 liter V8 engine under the hood. BMW V8 engines were the last V8 engines to power Morgans, with the 2021 Plus 8 GTR an example of which is part of the assembled group.
Afterwards, BMW’s six- and four-cylinder engines adopted the CX platform and used BMW engines to balance driving pleasure and purist enjoyment. One of these cars, powered by the 3.0-liter six-cylinder B58 engine, is the Morgan Midsummer, a limited edition Barchetta designed by Pininfarina with ultra-luxurious design and collector potential. Now the BMW B48 powers the new Plus Four, Morgan’s new classic sports car that stands for classically inspired style and driving pleasure.
A new flagship, the Morgan Supersport, features the B58 engine and, with the new CXV platform, is the most dynamic Morgan ever. The 14-vehicle program, put together to celebrate 25 years of partnership with BMW, shows that through their collaboration, Morgan and BMW have not only developed an esteemed range of classic sports cars, but have also helped shape the last quarter century of automotive history.
