Lotus sets new standards in charging electric vehicles.
Lotus is undoubtedly a brand known for speed. Lotus is a manufacturer deeply rooted in motorsport, with a range of iconic sports cars known for their agility and lightweight, motorsport-inspired engineering. It is a manufacturer built on a valued heritage of speed. But with a range that is now almost entirely electric and certainly more futuristic and technology-focused than ever before, Lotus is now becoming known for a different approach to speed and a different kind of speed as a whole.
This is the charging speed of electric vehicles, one of the biggest disadvantages of electric vehicles compared to their combustion-powered counterparts. When it comes to charging an electric vehicle, minutes at a gas pump and hours at a gas station have long been enough, and the compatibility between systems has also made charging electric vehicles difficult for many drivers. Now the industry is working hard to solve these problems, standardize the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and also improve the technology in both vehicles and chargers to make charging and battery performance more efficient than before.
Lotus is at the forefront of this innovation as the Lotus Emeya, the manufacturer’s latest all-electric grand touring performance car, has once again broken its own record as one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles on the public grid. In the test conducted independently by Lotus Al Ghanim in Kuwait, the Emeya used Lotus’ ultra-fast 450kW DC charger and achieved a peak charging power of 443kW. The car accelerated from 10 to 80 percent in just 13 minutes and 35 seconds.
The car’s battery technology was also instrumental in achieving this feat: Thanks to the cell-to-pack battery structure, the Emeya’s battery contains 20 percent more cells than a comparable battery of the same size. The vehicle also has an 800-volt charging system that enables incredible charging speeds. In addition to its incredible charging time and impressive range, the Lotus Emeya is not only a luxurious, performance-oriented grand touring electric vehicle, but also one of the most innovative and forward-thinking electric vehicles on the market. With another charging speed record, Lotus’ electric vehicle range represents the future of mobility.
