In the run-up to CES 2026, there are rumors on the Internet about a new Lenovo ThinkPad Rollable. This is the potential successor to the rollable AI PC ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which could have a “vertically expanding display”.
As Windows Latest reports, the Lenovo ThinkPad Rollable XD Concept aims to transform a traditional 13.3-inch laptop into one with an upright 16-inch display. However, this is the least interesting part of the device, as it also reportedly features a transparent lid that reveals the screen when rolled into the case.
A transparent lid that transforms into a second display facing the world
So when you’re not using the upright display, the extra screen area (folded inside the lid) is visible through the transparent lid, an implementation the company calls a “world-facing display.”
Imagine you’re working on a traditional Lenovo laptop, but instead of the plastic or metal back cover (facing away from you), there’s another screen. This is exactly what the ThinkPad Rollable XD Concept should look like.
The clear lid is made from Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which we’ve seen protects the beautiful flagship displays of Android smartphones. Thanks to its transparent nature, users can see the flexible OLED display rolled back behind the transparent glass.
Additionally, information from the main screen can also be displayed on the other side of the lid, including the Lenovo AI chatbot, calendar notifications and, apparently, Microsoft Teams.
Although it’s not immediately clear, the ThinkPad Rollable could
While for the Lenovo ThinkPad Rollable I would speculate that the new rollable concept would fetch a higher and higher price.
