JBL launches the Sense Pro and Sense Lite open earphones

JBL aims to change the way we think about open-ear listening with the introduction of two new models: JBL Sense Pro and JBL Sense Lite. These are not your typical earbuds that will clog your ears. Instead, they use clever air-ducting technology to deliver music to your ears while allowing you full awareness of the world around you. It’s a big refresh for JBL and focuses on making open-ear audio actually sound good enough for everyday use.

The big promise of Sense Pro and Sense Lite is that you no longer have to choose between hearing your surroundings and hearing your bass. Both models use JBL OpenSound technology, which delivers sound directly to your ear without sealing the ear canal. This design was created for people who want to stay safe while running, hear their colleagues at the office, or simply hate the feeling of silicone tips in their ears.

Open-air audio technology is the next big thing for JBL

According to Carsten Olesen, president of consumer audio at HARMAN, JBL has finally cracked the code to delivering “full, bass-rich sound” over the air – a feat that has historically been open-ear technology’s biggest weakness. The aim is to take these headphones from a niche security device to a mainstream choice for music lovers.

The Sense Pro is the powerhouse of the pair. It’s packed with massive 16.2mm drivers, supports Hi-Res Audio, and uses an adaptive bass boost algorithm to ensure music doesn’t sound thin. JBL has also gone for the highest quality in calls, using four microphones and a “voice pickup sensor” to ensure you sound clear and distinct even when answering a call on a winding road or on a busy bus. It also features a high quality adjustable hook for a more secure fit.

The Sense Lite is for those who just want something simple and convenient

It’s lighter, made of soft silicone and designed to disappear into the ear. Even though it’s not as “professional” in terms of audio specs, it still offers adaptive bass and a solid 32 hours of battery life. Additionally, its IP54 rating means it can easily withstand sweat and some rain.

Both models work well with Google Fast Pair and the JBL Headphones app for comprehensive customization. The Pro version offers some useful extras like wireless charging and Bluetooth 6.0, increasing the total battery life to 38 hours.

The JBL Sense Pro will go on sale in March 2026 for $199.95, with the Sense Lite following for $149.95. As more people look for ways to stay connected to their surroundings without sacrificing their playlists, JBL’s latest range proves that “open” doesn’t have to mean “empty” when it comes to sound.
