Hyundai-Inster deal sees baby electric cars cut by $7,000

Hyundai Australia is promoting a new drive-away pricing offer for the Inster small electric vehicle (EV), with the base Standard range receiving discounts of over $7,000.

This nationwide offer is priced in the Inster Standard Range $35,990 drive awaywhich equates to a saving of $7288 based on a NSW postcode.

For reference, the Hyundai Inster Standard Range MY26 typically starts at $39,000 before on-road costs.

Although the Korean manufacturer doesn’t explicitly state it, this significant price cut is undoubtedly a response to increasing competition from Chinese rivals, as the BYD Atto 1 can be purchased in New South Wales from just $26,500 drive-away.

While the base Inster is still almost $10,000 more expensive than the cheapest Atto 1, the Hyundai offers a more powerful electric motor and significantly more range (327 km versus 220 km) – even more than the Atto 1 Premium (310 km).

The Inster also comes standard with a number of features that the base Atto 1 does not have, such as: B. LED headlights and alloy wheels – but these base models essentially come with the Atto 1 Premium, which starts at around $30,650 per car in New South Wales.

Despite the huge hype leading up to its launch in Australia, the Hyundai Inster has had very little impact on the Australian market so far.

Only 467 units were registered in calendar year 2025 – even though the Inster only landed in June. In comparison, cheaper but larger competitors such as the BYD Dolphin and the MG 4 each managed around 3,000 units.

While Hyundai has adopted the Inster’s standard pricing, the Extended Range and Cross models will continue to be advertised at their regular list prices – that is, $42,500 and $45,000 plus on-road costs respectively.

Is this discount enough to add the Hyundai Inster to your cheap EV lineup? Let us know in the comments!
