Honor introduces its next-generation silicon-carbon battery that’s as thin as a playing card

Honor is preparing to take battery innovation to the next level with its upcoming silicon-carbon blade battery. The company released a teaser today offering a first look at the ultra-thin power supply, and it’s anything but conventional.

In the short clip, Honor shows a battery as thin as a playing card being thrown through the air by a Guinness World Record card launcher. The dramatic demonstration not only highlights the battery’s razor-thin profile, but also its durability as it cuts through pieces of fruit mid-flight.

While Honor hasn’t revealed detailed specifications yet, it claims that the silicon-carbon blade battery has a higher silicon content and larger capacity than the fifth-generation silicon-carbon battery slated to launch in the upcoming Honor Magic V6. Developed in collaboration with China-based battery maker ATL, this battery reportedly features 25% silicon content and a sizable 6,600mAh capacity without increasing the thickness of the device.

A big battery jump in a slim, foldable device

In contrast, last year’s Magic V5, which held the title of thinnest foldable device, featured a 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery. The jump to 6,600 mAh would represent a significant increase compared to last year. It could also give the Magic V6 a clear advantage over competing book-style foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has a 4,400mAh battery, and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which has a 5,015mAh battery.

With Honor delivering a 6,600mAh battery in an ultra-thin body, the Magic V6 could set a new benchmark for endurance in the foldable segment without compromising on design. The device is expected to be unveiled during the company’s MWC keynote on March 1, where more details about the silicon-carbon blade battery will also be revealed.
