Honda has always had a flair for capturing serious market share wherever there is an internal combustion engine, be it on two wheels, four wheels or, ultimately, in the air. From motorcycles and sports cars to lawn equipment and jets, the common thread is smart engineering and long-term thinking. Almost a decade after the first HondaJet deliveries, that attitude is still very much alive. The newly announced HondaJet APMG S Upgrade Package aims to bring early HondaJet Classic and APMG aircraft up to speed.
The original HondaJet made a splash by doing things differently. Over-the-wing engine mounts, a surprisingly spacious cabin for its class and a focus on efficiency helped it become a standout in the very light jet segment. Of course, when newer variants like the HondaJet Elite S came onto the market, earlier aircraft felt a generation behind. The APMG S program closes this gap. Offered through Honda Aircraft Company’s Greensboro Service Center and its global network of 21 authorized service centers, the upgrade provides existing owners with access to technological enhancements without the commitment or expense of upgrading to a brand-new jet. Honda has even applied the APMG S upgrades to several used aircraft and integrated them into its own resale program.
The heart of the APMG S upgrade lies in the avionics and performance that actually shows up in daily operations. Updated avionics software and hardware provide faster processing speeds and future-proof the cockpit for further upgrades in the future. Key systems introduced on later models, such as the Advanced Steering Augmentation System, are now integrated into the Legacy fleet, improving driving experience and expanding crosswind capability. There’s also a practical 300-pound increase in maximum takeoff weight, which directly translates into more flexibility when it comes to passengers, luggage or fuel.
Pilots will likely appreciate the quieter improvements just as much. Graphical weight and balance tools simplify pre-flight planning and allow crews to quickly visualize load and fuel scenarios rather than relying on spreadsheets or guesswork. These are the kind of updates that don’t grab headlines, but make ownership easier and flying more predictable. In addition to the APMG S modifications, Honda offers interior restoration options at its Greensboro factory, allowing owners to consolidate work and minimize downtime. With FAA certification already secured for U.S.-registered aircraft and international approvals expected, the program comes at an opportune time as the HondaJet celebrates its 10th anniversary. Instead of chasing the hype, Honda Aircraft Company ensures that yesterday’s innovations are still relevant tomorrow.
