ford CEO Jim Farley left an important clue Bronco The name is set to be used for a new Spanish-built SUV due to hit European showrooms in 2027 – but it’s not yet confirmed for Australia.
Accordingly AutocarThe Ford boss said at the Detroit Motor Show in January in the USA, saying: “The Bronco range is filling up worldwide, and I don’t think the media has noticed that yet… We have big plans for the Bronco worldwide.”
The Bronco name is currently used for a Ford Ranger-derived body-on-frame SUV competing with the Jeep Wrangler, built in the United States and exported to markets such as Europe; and the Bronco Sport, a smaller unibody SUV related to the Ford Escape and not sold in Europe.
It is also used in China on the Bronco New Energy, which rides on a car-like unibody platform like the Bronco Sport but is larger at more than five meters long and is offered as either an electric vehicle (EV) or an extended range electric vehicle (EREV).

Daily Sparkz Ford Australia understands that it will bring the Chinese-made model to Australia, but has not yet made an official announcement about its addition to the local lineup.
Mr Farley said, as reported by AutocarCustomers should “expect a lot of exciting powertrains for Bronco,” further suggesting that the Bronco name will be used on a portfolio of different SUVs in Ford showrooms worldwide.
The new SUV for Europe is expected to combine the underpinnings of the Escape (badged as Kuga in Europe and the UK) with the chunky design language of the Bronco off-roader.
It’s expected to be a more premium model than the Escape – which was dropped from Ford’s Australian lineup in 2023 and from Ford’s US lineup in 2025 – but will still be positioned as a rival to the Volkswagen Tiguan/Tayron, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
Autocar The new Bronco crossover will reportedly be offered as a plug-in hybrid like the Escape. Ford is increasing its focus on powertrains like hybrids and EREVs after the company lost billions of dollars on its electric vehicle programs due to slower-than-expected EV adoption.
At the end of 2025, Mr. Farley said The nation in Argentina: “We don’t want to build cars for everyone; we want to build beautiful off-road machines and work vehicles.”
He also outlined Ford’s ambitions to become “the Porsche of off-road” and expand its brands including Raptor and Bronco, while the company also recently registered another historic trademark – Ranchero – in the US.
