Google announced a range of new Gemini features for Google TV at CES 2026, aimed at making on-screen answers more useful and easier to understand from the sofa. Google first launched Gemini on Google TV last year to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on its devices.
Instead of short, text-heavy answers, Gemini on Google TV relies on richer, more visual answers, including high-resolution images, relevant video context and live sports information when appropriate, giving users clearer answers at a glance without having to pull out their phone.
What Gemini Can Do on Google TV
One of the most important innovations is a function called “Deep Dives”, which is intended to explain complex topics in a more understandable way. For example, if you ask why a natural phenomenon occurs, Gemini can show a visual explanation and then provide an opportunity to explore the topic further without interrupting what you are observing.
Geminis are also more talkative about the TV settings. For example, instead of opening menus, users can say that the screen is too dark or the dialogue is difficult to understand, and Gemini will automatically adjust the appropriate settings. This is intended to make everyday repairs quicker and less frustrating.
The update also extends to photos and creative features. Google Photos users can search their libraries for specific people or moments with Gemini, apply artistic styles with Photo Remix, or create cinematic, immersive slideshows from existing images. In addition, Google plans to launch content generation tools based on Veo and Nano Banana, which will allow users to create new images or creatively remix photos directly on their TV.
The Gemini upgrade for Google TV is rolling out for free, starting with the latest TCL TV models, with more Google TV devices expected to follow in the coming months. Google only recently integrated Gemini into Google TV Streamer, so it may take some time for these new features to become more widely available.
