GeForce NOW’s 100-hour cap explained for your monthly gaming time

GeForce NOW will begin enforcing GeForce NOW’s 100-hour cap starting January 1 and introduce a monthly game time limit that changes the way some subscribers plan their game time. The immediate question is whether the cap will change anything for you immediately or whether you will effectively be on a longer runway.

One Reddit user has already tried to understand the policy by posting a chart that estimates what it might cost to go beyond 100 hours based on tier and add-on assumptions. It is useful for rough planning, but it is not the same as official terms.

Who will be capped first?

Nvidia announced the cap in 2024 and positioned it to apply to users with new subscriptions first. It also said current paying members would be affected starting January 2026.

The same message adds that active paying members will be able to retain unlimited playtime for a full year starting December 31, 2024, until January 2026. This means the system will start on January 1, but the actual impact will depend on your subscription status and timing.

What’s missing here is a clear definition of what counts as a “new subscription” versus an “active paying member,” especially when these rules vary from country to country.

Is 100 hours a lot?

On paper, 100 hours is just over three hours per day in a typical month. If your gaming consists mostly of short sessions, you may never encounter this. If you plan on long weekend runs, that monthly supply can quickly disappear.

The Reddit chart estimates overage costs using 15-hour add-on blocks, rounding, and two paid tiers. Treat these numbers as estimates unless Nvidia confirms the same add-on sizes, pricing and rounding rules in its own documentation. What to watch before January 1st

Before January 1st, look for the company’s official breakdown of how monthly hours are measured, when the meter resets, and what happens if you hit the cap in the middle of the month. You should also check whether add-ons and prices vary by region.

If you think you have close to 100 hours per month, start tracking your play time now to get a clearer baseline. Once Nvidia releases the exact rules, you’ll know whether you need to adjust your schedule, change tiers, or allow extra time.
