The independent car safety authority ANCAP has published its latest assessments. Eight new models receive the maximum five-star rating – including three from brands new to Australia.
Five-star reviews were given Geely Starray, Let’s EV4, Jump motor B10, Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe, MG HS, Subaru Solterra, Toyota bZ4XAndZeekr 7X.
They are all based on the ANCAP criteria for 2023-25, with no ratings yet announced for vehicles tested against more stringent criteria for 2026. The crash tests were carried out by sister agency Euro NCAP.

When the category ratings were combined, the vehicle with the highest rating was the Jump motor B10.
The small electric SUV received an adult protection rating of 93 percent, a child protection rating of 95 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 84 percent and a safety assistance rating of 86 percent.
ANCAP says it received the highest score for driver protection in the side impact and inclined post tests.
The plug-in hybrid Geely Starray Midsize SUV received a five-star rating with an adult protection rating of 90 percent, a child protection rating of 87 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 86 percent and a safety assistance rating of 82 percent.
The Starray is the second Geely-branded model to launch in Australia following its launch in 2025, with the accompanying EX5 electric SUV also receiving a five-star rating.
Another brand of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is Zeekrand it is 7X Midsize SUV received five stars with an adult protection rating of 91 percent, a child protection rating of 87 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 78 percent and a safety assistance rating of 78 percent.
Not all of the vehicles tested were of Chinese origin, only Korean Let’s EV4 It received five stars with an adult protection rating of 84 percent, a child protection rating of 86 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 77 percent and a safety assistance rating of 81 percent.
ANCAP found that the midsize electric sedan received the highest score for adult occupant protection in the side impact and inclined pole tests.
Not every vehicle tested had a large battery underneath. ANCAP also assessed the Mercedes Benz CLE Sports car and gives it five stars – however, this rating only applies to the coupé series and not to the convertible.
It received an adult protection rating of 93 percent, a child protection rating of 86 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 87 percent and a safety assistance rating of 84 percent.
The Subaru Solterra And Toyota bZ4X Gemini also received five-star safety ratings, with identical scores of 88 percent for protecting adult occupants, 86 percent for protecting children, 80 percent for protecting vulnerable road users and 82 percent for safety assist.
These midsize electric SUVs have received new ratings following updates to the duo in 2025.
Finally, hybrid and plug-in hybrid MG HS Midsize crossover SUVs received a five-star rating with a 2024 date stamp.
ANCAP said additional testing confirmed the five-star rating could be adopted on the petrol variants.
The HS range received an adult protection rating of 90 percent, a child protection rating of 87 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 83 percent and a safety assistance rating of 74 percent.
In addition to releasing new safety test results, ANCAP also recently confirmed that a number of models – including popular vehicles such as the Mazda 3 and CX-30, Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLE, and Volkswagen T-Cross – no longer have valid safety ratings.
Because each of these vehicles had a safety rating that is now six years old. They are now officially classified as “not classified” by the safety authority.
