Geely EX5 finally gets an important missing feature

Geely EX5 Owners are receiving an over-the-air (OTA) software update this week that brings a long-awaited feature to the Chinese car brand’s debut model in Australia: Android Auto.

The OTA update began rolling out to owners on February 4, 2026 and the rollout will continue until February 9. The update can be downloaded to the mid-size electric SUV via home Wi-Fi or on your smartphone, eliminating the need to visit the dealer.

While the EX5 became the latest rival to the Tesla Model Y with the launch of the Geely brand Down Under in early 2025, Geely has also promised that its Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid will receive its first local OTA update before the end of March.

As with Apple CarPlay, the climate control remains anchored to the bottom of the infotainment touchscreen.

This update to the EX5 not only brings Android Auto with wired and wireless connectivity, but also some features designed to make safety features more user-friendly.

There are now three low-speed Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) sounds: Classic, Galactic and Constellation.

Geely has also added the option to set your preferred driving settings profile and then access it via a button combination on the steering wheel or via the swipe-down menu on the touchscreen.

The driver can set their preferred driving mode and energy recovery level and whether they want to turn on or off the lane departure warning, emergency lane departure warning and driver fatigue detection systems.

You can also set your preferred speed limit warning setting in this profile and choose between off, a flashing icon, or a flashing icon and audible alert.
