Ford Australia has issued a recall for the Ford Transit Customfrom and Ford TourneoPassenger transportation due to a battery problem.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the 12-volt battery vent may not function as intended. As a result, toxic gases may be released into the interior under certain driving conditions, such as high temperatures,” the company says in the recall notice.
“Occupants may experience a hissing noise, an odor of acid or rotten eggs, a visible gas leak, and/or heat in the seat.
“If toxic gases enter the interior, it can affect the health of vehicle occupants and increase the risk of serious injury.”

This is the same issue that saw the recall in October 2025 of 278 examples of the Ford E-Transit electric van produced between 2021 and 2025.
Although the recall has already taken place, the wording suggests that a repair is not yet possible.
“If a repair procedure is available, owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford Motor Company Australia and asked to contact their local dealer to have their vehicle repaired free of charge,” the recall states.
Owners of affected vehicles can contact Ford on 133 673 or their local Ford dealer for further information.
