Denza B8 and Hyundai Elexio are the latest Chinese SUVs to receive five-star safety ratings

The independent security authority ANCAP has recognized both Denza B8 And Hyundai Elexio Five-star safety ratings, but neither model crashed into anything.

ANCAP has confirmed that the Elexio has adopted the damaging crash test results of the closely related Kia EV5 “after a thorough assessment of the technical evidence”, despite carrying out new tests of its active safety technology.

Likewise, the Denza B8’s five-star rating is based “in part” on the Denza B5’s rating, with ANCAP reviewing the extensive technical documentation.

However, ANCAP noted design differences at the front of the B8 compared to its smaller off-road SUV brother and therefore conducted additional testing; A video published by the safety authority shows how a machine is used to press on the front of the vehicle. The result was a protection rating for vulnerable road users of 75 percent, compared to 74 percent in the B5.

Otherwise, the Denza B8 received the same category scores as the B5: an adult protection rating of 86 percent, a child protection rating of 95 percent and a safety assistance rating of 78 percent.

The Hyundai Elexio midsize electric SUV received an adult protection rating of 88 percent, a child protection rating of 86 percent, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 77 percent and a safety assistance rating of 85 percent.
