The number of electric vehicles (EVs) entering the Australian car market continues to grow – and with it the curiosity of new car buyers.
While some remain concerned, there is no denying that battery-powered cars are becoming more common on the road, and many owners – particularly in urban areas – are enjoying charging their vehicles for free, using the energy generated by rooftop solar panels.
As emissions laws become more stringent and families look for ways to reduce their living costs, automakers continue to develop new electric models to meet a wide range of needs.
Calendar year 2025 brought big changes to the Australian automotive landscape, with many new electric vehicles hitting the market – and more than a handful being launched by newcomer brands.
So here are the five most viewed EV reviews of 2025 – and interestingly, they’re all from Chinese brands.

5. Xpeng G6 Long Range
One of CarExperts The most popular EV review was the Xpeng G6 Long Range – the first model the Chinese brand launched in Australia. There was obviously a lot of interest in the G6, and senior writer Matt Campbell’s review rounded out our top five list.
Matt Campbell wrote:
“This is the most compelling sub-$60,000 electric family SUV on the market that I have driven to date.
“It feels more complete than many others in the budget range and offers a family-friendly level of space and features, making it a priority option to consider if you are looking for a vehicle of this type.”
“I, for one, can’t wait to see if the G6 remains at the top of the ‘look list’ as more new competitors enter the market in 2025.”

4. Geely EX5 Inspire
Geely, owner of brands such as Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, has entered the market in Australia under its own name and brings with it the mid-size electric SUV EX5. And it seems our readers were very interested to see if some of its Geely cousins’ magic has worn off. To find out, Jack Quick was tasked with testing the EX5 Inspire.
Jack Quick wrote:
“This car is all about perspective.
“If you step into one from an internal combustion engine vehicle, it will surprise you with its silence (apart from the Mr. Whippy-esque pedestrian warning noise) and brisk low-speed acceleration. The packaging will also refresh you, as there is no powertrain to restrict second-row space.
“However, compared to other competing electric vehicles, there is little to set the Geely EX5 apart from the ever-increasing crowd. The technology is eerily reminiscent of a Tesla, except there is a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display, there is no Apple CarPlay and Android Auto at launch, and the clunky look and limited paint color palette do it no favors.”
“I appreciate the great effort that Geely has put into local suspension tuning, which is a step in the right direction that several competing Chinese brands have not yet taken.
“Although the company claims to have made changes to the suspension, like many Chinese cars, it is still very wrong about comfort. I would be interested to see how the Chinese model performs on Australian roads, just for comparison.
“The fact that this car is also front-wheel drive doesn’t help from a driving dynamics perspective. Many rear-wheel drive competitors are much more rewarding on winding roads.
“The front wheels of this car can be overwhelmed with the amount of power and torque they have to send to the road, and you can tell Geely has dialed back the initial throttle response to compensate for this.
“Ultimately, the level of Australian interest in this car may well depend on pricing. The leaked figures are extremely promising, but we reserve judgment until we receive confirmation of this.”

3rd Zeekr
After years of speculation, Chinese brand Zeekr finally landed in Australia, bringing with it several models that piqued the interest of Australian buyers. The first of these was this sleek-looking electric SUV, so we sent executive Matt Campbell to see if Zeekr’s X was really the real deal.
Matt Campbell wrote:
“This is a largely impressive first offering from a new brand in our market.
“It has some excellent features and is priced appropriately for a truly premium EV experience. It is distinctive, different and desirable in its own way.”
“But it’s also quite frustrating and thoughtless when it comes to some engineering and design decisions, and the overbearing nature of the driver safety equipment makes the Zeekr X seem like a great car that might be difficult to live with.”
“Whether that’s enough to rule it out or rule it out for you is a matter of taste. Have your say in the comments and let us know what you think.”

2. Zeekr 7X
Our second most popular EV test in 2025 was the Zeekr 7X – which surely has to be seven times better than the standard X… Oh, apparently that’s not how it works. Regardless, we had Matt Campbell tasked with finding out exactly how good it is.
Matt Campbell wrote:
“This will be one of the most enticing new electric models to hit the busy midsize SUV market this year.
“It has the right technology and specifications, an outstanding design and enough desirable features to make it a very attractive proposition compared to some of its current mainstream competitors.”

1. SEALION WORLD 7
Following the successful launch of several BYD models in Australia, our readers were particularly interested in learning more about the Sealion 7 mid-size SUV – so much so that it took first place in the most read EV review of 2025. We sent our young talent, market journalist Max Davies, to the launch of the BYD Sealion 7 to see how it performed.
Max Davies wrote:
“All in all, the Sealion 7 is a pretty good car.
“Obviously it is not an SUV that stands out for its external beauty or its interior layout, as there are many elements here that can also be found in many other electric SUVs.
“So its strength lies in its function. In our relatively short time with the car, we hardly found any functions that would bother us in the long term, and while things like speed limit warnings can pop up, it’s not too difficult to deactivate them.”
“Everything just works and the integration of various elements such as physical vents and a handful of real buttons makes it easier to operate the car while driving – especially compared to the Model Y and Deepal S07 mid-size SUVs, which only have a screen.
“Then there’s the driving experience. BYD has done a good job of preparing this car for Australian roads and whether there was a concerted effort to optimize it locally or not, it’s impressive solidity.
“Its taut suspension gives it a premium driving feel that won’t tire you out. Power delivery is also smooth, the steering feels as it should, and there’s a strong balance between straight-line performance and everyday usability – particularly evident in the Premium.”
“The only real problems with the Sealion 7 are the strange “flywheel effect” of the accelerator pedal, its previously unknown real-world efficiency, and the fact that the performance flagship really isn’t worth the extra money. A much more compelling value proposition is the Premium, as it has more range and an already extensive list of standard equipment.
“BYD’s latest Australian model has plenty of space, drives well, doesn’t cost too much and doesn’t annoy you with poorly planned user interfaces or incessant beeping and beeping.
“They could do a lot worse than the Sealion 7 Premium, and at launch we think it makes more sense than the upcoming Model Y.”
