Bedroom Dresser Progress (or the Opposite of Progress)

Understood. I feel like I need to preface this post by telling you all that I don’t drink. As I said, not at all. I don’t drink socially. I don’t drink at home. I have never been drunk once in my entire life.

The reason I’m telling you this is because if I hadn’t prefaced this and gone straight to showing you the color choices I’ve made over the last two days, you might think that I spent my weekend picking colors while drunk. I can assure you that didn’t happen. I almost wish it were true because then at least I would have an excuse. But as it stands, I don’t have a valid excuse.

So on Saturday morning I posted the neutral color swatches I had picked up for the bedroom dresser. I didn’t like any of them, so I made three models of the chest of drawers in green, orange and coral. I liked the green best. I really liked this green.

After deciding on green, I went to Home Depot to get paint and somehow I ended up here. I mean, I can’t even explain it. I can generally tell you how my thought processes work and how I end up making a particular decision. But this? I have no explanation for this. But to save face here, I’m going to blame it on the fluorescent lights at Home Depot, okay?

So yesterday I went to Sherwin Williams to see what they had. My mother had suggested I use a much darker green so it wouldn’t draw as much attention. She thought a darker green might somehow fade and not become the focal point. So I chose this color.

And yes. It’s all wrong. I only had one coat left to put in the drawers and it would be done. Done…and totally wrong.

So here’s this dark green after two coats. I believe the color is called Shamrock. The picture looks funny because I sent it to my mom and had folded the rug back up so the really dark gray back of the rug was showing. She removed that because it was really distracting.

And then she matched the color of the drawer and sent it back to me. She thinks I should go more in that direction with the green.

And then she made a model of the dresser with the rug and other items.

Here’s the deal. I like the green. I think it’s very pretty. I actually think it fits the room and the fabric very well. In fact, it matches the bird fabric pretty perfectly.

But it doesn’t seem to be a color that fits in my house. However, it looks perfect for someone else’s house. For my house it needs to be a little brighter, clearer and more lively. So I used the fabric samples I bought for the foyer bench. I’m going to use this green cube print on this bench and this green goes really well with the bird fabric.

So I’m going to try it again today and hope to end up with something that looks really good but doesn’t need to be the focus. I’m not too confident at the moment, but we’ll see what I come up with. Maybe I can actually do this.
