Asos co-founder Quentin Griffiths has died after a fall in Thailand

Quentin Griffiths, the British co-founder of online fashion retailer Asos, has died after falling from a high-rise building in Pattaya, according to local reports.

Griffiths, 58, is believed to have fallen from the 17th floor of his condominium. Emergency services attended the scene and confirmed his death.

Thai police said there were no immediate signs of disturbance at the apartment, but added that the investigation was ongoing and crime had not been ruled out pending further forensic analysis. Authorities said a full autopsy was needed to determine the exact cause of death.

The circumstances of the fall remain unclear. A source close to the family told The Sun that the situation was described as “suspicious”, although no official determination had yet been made.

Griffiths was reportedly involved in a legal dispute with his former Thai wife over business assets. Last year he was questioned by the police because he was accused of forging documents to sell land and shares in a jointly operated company. He denied the allegations and was released after questioning. The investigation was reportedly still ongoing at the time of his death.

Griffiths was born in London and co-founded Asos in 2000 with Nick Robertson and Andrew Regan. The company grew into a global online fashion retailer worth around £3bn at its peak, which also included high-profile celebrities such as the Princess of Wales and Michelle Obama wearing its own-brand designs.

Griffiths resigned from Asos in 2005 after serving as marketing director. He later made significant profits from share sales, reportedly earning around £15 million in 2010 and receiving further profits in subsequent years.

In later years he took legal action against accountancy firm BDO, claiming that faulty tax advice had led to millions of pounds of liability relating to the disposal of shares in Asos and Achica, another online retail company he co-founded.

Griffiths had lived in Thailand for more than a decade. He is said to have been the father of three children.

Daily Sparkz has contacted the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for comment.

The investigation by the Thai authorities is ongoing.
