Xpeng is offering five-day extended test drives at participating locations, allowing potential buyers to live with the G6 and test its range, charging performance and driver assistance technology before committing. Bookings are available via the brand’s Australian website.
The G6 is a mid-size rear-wheel drive electric SUV offered in Standard Range and Long Range variants, with either 190 kW of power and a 66 kWh battery or a 210 kW electric motor and an 87.5 kWh battery.
Claimed WLTP range is 435km for the Standard Range and 570km for the Long Range, with DC fast charging at up to 215kW and 280kW respectively and a claimed 10 to 80 per cent charge time of 20 minutes.
Xpeng is a Chinese electric vehicle brand that exclusively builds electric vehicles. It was founded in Guangzhou in 2014 and is now expanding into markets such as Australia.
The brand now has 18 experience centers and test drive locations across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania, including locations such as Crown Sydney, Mascot, Parramatta and Coburg North.
A further eight locations are listed as “coming soon”, with new locations planned in Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin, as well as multiple locations in metropolitan Melbourne and Perth.
The G6 is one of the cheaper midsize electric SUVs on the market, sitting between budget Chinese newcomers and established rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
An updated version with more power and optimized design has been approved for sale in Australia and is already available in other markets.
Although the number of electric vehicles in the Australian market continues to increase, the sales share of the new car market still remains relatively low, and a number of Chinese electric vehicle brands are competing fiercely on price and value to win market share.
TrueEV doesn’t report Xpeng sales figures in its monthly VFACTS industry sales reports, so it’s unclear how many G6s have been delivered since the brand’s launch last year. So far, the G6 is the brand’s only product in Australia.
