Guerrilla expands the Horizon universe with Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new co-op action game for PS5 and PC. It is based on tactical hunts where a team of three must quickly identify the playing field, manage roles and stay alive when machines begin to swarm.
A small closed play test is planned for late February as part of the PlayStation beta program and will run on both platforms. At launch, the game will support cross-play between PS5 and PC, as well as cross-progression if you use the same PlayStation account.
There’s no release date or price yet, so February’s test is the best early indicator of whether the combat loop will hold up.
Two modes to master
Machine Incursion is Quick Attack mode, a high-intensity mission revolving around waves of machines pouring out of underground gates. It ends with a boss fight designed to punish teams that don’t coordinate or burn cooldowns at the wrong times.
Cauldron Descent is presented as a long-term film. It sends your squad through multiple phases with escalating encounters and optional detours that can pay out power and rewards. These side routes come with a clear trade-off: more loot, more danger, and more opportunities for sideways running.
Both modes will be playable on PS5 and PC during closed play testing.
Hunters, perks and a hub
You won’t create a custom character here. You choose from a list of Hunters, each based on their own melee or ranged combat style and specific weapons, then slip into Hunter roles and a rogue-lite bonus system that can reshape your build from run to run. It’s a clean setup for co-op, especially when each player has a job.
Guerrilla also combines it with a fully canonical story campaign, with new threats and secrets that are not yet explained in detail. The studio says the narrative will continue post-launch, hinting at more missions and story beats over time.
Between runs, you’ll return to Hunters Gathering, a social gathering place where you can customize your hunter, meet vendors, upgrade gear, and plan the next hunt.
What to watch next
Sign-ups for the closed play test at the end of February will run through the PlayStation Beta program, and the test will include PS5 and PC from the start. If you love repeatable runs with a solid crew, it’s worth a try, as you’ll quickly notice if the trio structure feels tight or restrictive.
Following the initial test, Guerrilla says further playtesting and development updates will follow in the coming months, along with announcements made via the new official Discord.
