The new VolkswagenTiguan And Tayron were only just launched in Australia in May and September respectively, but that hasn’t stopped the German brand from announcing a series of upgrades for the 2026 model year (MY26) just a few months later.
The most important of these is the addition of Volkswagen’s Turn Assist 2.0, which is now standard equipment on the Tiguan mid-size SUV range and the associated Tayron large SUV, which replaced the Tiguan Allspace.
Turn Assist 2.0 improves collision avoidance capabilities by being able to detect and respond to oncoming traffic moving straight toward the vehicle, as well as detecting and braking when the driver encounters oncoming traffic moving straight ahead (as before).

In addition, new aero covers for the 20-inch “Leeds” alloy wheels of the Tiguan 195TSI R-Line are now standard and therefore match the wheels of the Golf R-Line and the Touareg R-Line.
However, Volkswagen says that this move is intended to “further improve the driving comfort of the Tiguan 110TSI Life and 110TSI Elegance MY26.” These variants are now downsized from the previously standard 19-inch wheels to smaller 17-inch “Venezia” or 18-inch “Napoli” alloy wheels.
Finally, for MY26, all Tiguan Elegance and R-Line vehicles will feature illuminated VW emblems front and rear for the first time.
Volkswagen’s medium and large SUV range will be expanded in 2026 to include the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) Tiguan eHybrid and Tayron eHybrid, both of which offer an all-electric range of more than 100 km (WLTP).
The German brand says it will offer customers the widest choice of powertrains across the most popular SUV segments, including an entry-level 110TSI 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in five- and seven-seat configurations, the sportier 2.0-litre all-wheel-drive Elegance and R-Line variants (Tiguan only), and the range-topping 195TSI R-Line 195kW/400Nm flagships.
Volkswagen says it will continue to add turbo-petrol and PHEV powertrains alongside the battery-powered ID. 4 and ID. 5 mid-size electric SUVs, all in the most popular price range between $45,000 and $75,000.
