The new Toyota HiLux will be announced on November 11, 2025.
Toyota Motor Thailand announced the unveiling date in a teaser video and introduced further parts of the new – or more precisely: heavily updated – ute range. The HiLux, like many other subs sold in Australia, is manufactured in Thailand.
The teaser video shows more aggressive new upward-facing headlights with thin LED daytime running lights, as well as vertically oriented taillights with thin, C-shaped LED elements.

Thanks to a flood of leaked images and spy photos, we’ve already seen quite a bit of the new HiLux.
In addition to the revised front and rear design, the HiLux gets a new dashboard with what appears to be an available 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Previous spy photos have shown that the doors and roof panels are carried over from the current generation model, which is now ten years old, which makes sense as the new generation ute is said to be based on a carried over ladder frame platform.
That’s in contrast to the Tacoma, Toyota’s Ford Ranger competitor in markets like the US, which switched to the TNGA-F platform with its latest generation, which it shares with models like the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and 300 Series, a move that also saw its American cousin gain hybrid power for the first time.
The new HiLux is expected to continue to feature a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which is currently offered either with or without a 48V mild hybrid system.
Peak outputs are currently 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque with or without the V Active Mild Hybrid system and 165kW/550Nm for the flagship GR Sport.
It is still unclear whether the diesel engines will be converted to the Euro 6 emissions regulations and therefore may require AdBlue.
It is also currently unclear what will happen to the 2.4-liter turbodiesel engines and the 2.7-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engines that are offered in cheaper variants of the previous HiLux. These are not included in the recently released Australian Government certification documents.
A leaked slide from a presentation to Malaysian media at the Tokyo Motor Show posted on social media appears to show that the new HiLux will also be offered with electric power.
This electric car – of which only a silhouette was visible on the slide – will be launched in Malaysia in the next 12 months, although it is unclear whether it will be offered in markets such as Australia.
Toyota previously brought a prototype version of the electric HiLux Revo concept to Australia, based on the previous generation. The company then confirmed that it would supply mining giant BHP with electric HiLuxes from November 2024.
While the HiLux continues to dominate 4×2 ute sales in Australia, its lead in 4×4 sales has allowed the Ranger to overtake the Toyota for the first time in 2023.
This made the Ranger Australia’s best-selling new car, a title it retained in 2024 and may continue to retain in 2025.
The HiLux currently offers nothing to rival the turbodiesel V6 or plug-in hybrid four-cylinder petrol powertrains offered in the Ranger.
