The 2026 Toyota HiLux Official sales take place on December 9, 2025 with an expanded lineup that includes a refreshed exterior, a new cabin design and now only a diesel powertrain.
It is currently the best-selling Toyota and was the best-selling car of any brand in October 2025 in a tough battle with arch-rival Ford Ranger, whose latest generation was launched in 2022.
The top models Rogue and Rugged return to the expanded product range
The new HiLux uses the same ladder frame chassis as before – not the newer TNGA-F platform used on the LandCruiser Prado and LandCruiser 300 series – and therefore has similar dimensions to its predecessor.

Full details such as payload, towing capacity, fuel consumption and off-road metrics such as ground clearance, approach and departure angles are yet to be announced.
The exterior was designed by Toyota Design Australia, the redesigned front and rear features the same doors and interior as before, with narrower LED headlights, a new grille and sharper lines on the nose.
There are new taillights at the back and, in the pickup variants, a new integrated step behind the rear wheel. Other cosmetic changes include fresh colors and wheel patterns.
The interior has also been completely redesigned, with new technology and redesigned seats.
The standard engine is the carried-over 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder, which partially justifies the higher starting price as both the previous 2.4-litre petrol engine and the 2.7-litre diesel have been omitted.
A manual transmission is still available in some model grades, making it one of the increasingly rare three-pedal models in Australia.
The base WorkMate has more standard safety equipment, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as LED headlights, while all HiLuxes have been upgraded to a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Prices
Toyota Australia has only announced pricing for the diesel HiLux for five model grades in Cab/Chassis and Crew Cab body styles. First up is the WorkMate, ahead of the SR, SR5, Rogue and – which returns after being discontinued in 2022 – the Rugged X.
The 2026 HiLux starts at $33,990 before on-roads for the manual WorkMate 4×2 – an increase from the previous $27,730 before on-roads for the previous 2.7-litre petrol version.
The cheapest diesel was previously the 2.4-litre engine, which started at $32,790 before on-road costs in its cheapest WorkMate Hi-Rider guise.
At the higher end are the prices for the Rogue Dual-Cab and the Rugged
A GR Sport to take on the hero Ford Ranger Raptor hasn’t been announced yet. Given that GR was one of the five core brands within the Toyota Group announced in October 2025 – with Daihatsu (not sold here), Century, Lexus and the Toyota brand itself – it is almost certain to be added to the lineup.

Drives and efficiency
All diesel-powered 2026 HiLux model ranges will be equipped with a 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder – with an unchanged 150kW/500Nm for the automatic and 150kW/420Nm for the manual versions – with a choice of 4×2 or 4×4.
The WorkMate, SR and SR5 model levels also offer the six-speed manual transmission, while the SR and higher automatic model levels come with 48-volt mild hybrid technology as standard.
Fuel efficiency, payload and towing capacities have not yet been released for the new generation.
The 2.7-litre petrol engine and 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine have been dropped, leaving the 2.8-litre engine as the only powertrain offered at launch. Electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) versions are confirmed for Australia.
The HiLux EV is scheduled to launch locally between January and March 2026, while the FCEV – which uses hydrogen like the Toyota Mirai sedan – is scheduled to launch sometime in 2028.
Fuel consumption figures for the previous HiLux range are as follows:
- 2.8TD manual transmission: 7.1-8.0 liters per 100 km
- 2.8TD automatic: 7.5-8.1 liters per 100 km
These numbers vary depending on body style and have yet to be confirmed for 2026.

Dimensions
Toyota hasn’t confirmed full details, including dimensions, but since the 2026 HiLux shares the same platform right down to the doors and roof, expect little change overall.
The previous HiLux had a wheelbase of 3,085 mm (the distance between the front and rear axles), with an additional cab and double cab pickups with a length of 5,320 mm and a length of the cab chassis versions, which depends on the loading of the storage compartments.
The cab and chassis models were 1800mm wide, while the double cab pickups were 1855mm wide – with the exception of the Rogue, Rugged X and GR Sport models which were 2020mm wide.
The top three “wide track” models also increased standard ground clearance from 216mm to 265mm.
The 2026 Rogue and the Rugged
The additional cab body style is now offered exclusively on the SR trim, having previously been offered on the WorkMate and SR5.
Braked towing capacity was 2800kg for 4×2 diesel and 3500kg for all 4×4 models and is expected to be similar for the 2026 version.
Maintenance and warranty
The Toyota HiLux is backed by Toyota’s five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, which covers all Toyota-manufactured parts, trim and accessories.
The engine and drivetrain warranty can be extended for an additional two years as long as the vehicle receives scheduled maintenance and the car is covered by seven years of emergency assistance.
Previous HiLux service prices were capped at $245-$290 per visit for the first six visits, covering three years or 60,000km.
Maintenance is still required every six months or 10,000km, which is significantly shorter than the usual 12-month/15,000km intervals offered by most rivals.
