The camouflaged Fortuner appears to have followed the new HiLux’s ‘squatting Sumo’ front-end styling theme – which was led by Toyota Australia Design – with design changes at the rear.
The Fortuner cabin is also expected to follow the look of the HiLux interior, contributed to by the Australian design team, but originating from Japan.
Toyota Australia told Daily Sparkz There are no plans to introduce the updated model in Australia and the existing model remains in stock for several months, with 240 examples delivered in January 2026.
When the end of Fortuner was announced for Australia, Toyota’s then vice president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley said buyers would move to the HiLux and LandCruiser Prado instead.
The Fortuner will continue to be sold in the Middle East, India, Cambodia and Mexico and other markets, with turbodiesel and petrol models offered.
These include a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine – previously offered in the HiLux in Australia – and a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic. In Australia it was only offered with a 2.8 liter four-cylinder turbo diesel.
A total of 3,407 Fortuners were delivered in Australia in 2025 – a 12 per cent increase on the previous year – making a modest contribution to Toyota’s 239,863 sales, marking the brand’s 24th consecutive year topping the local sales charts.
