The heavily updated Subaru Solterra Electric SUV has arrived in Australia and behind its new face lies refreshed technology and a larger battery that promises more range and more power – tempered by price cuts of up to $7,000.
The two-model Solterra range now starts at $63,990 before travel – a whopping $6,000 cheaper than the previous model – while the flagship Touring costs $69,990 before it hits the road, another $7,000 less than its predecessor.
The revised Solterra also has a significantly longer range of up to 152 km Total range according to WLTP is 566 km for the base Solterra AWD. Meanwhile, the range of the flagship Solterra AWD Touring has increased by 103 km to 517 km.
Subaru claims this was achieved by installing a larger 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery (up from 71.4 kWh) from Chinese manufacturer CATL, as well as improved electric motor efficiency and optimized, streamlined aerodynamics.

Like the bZ4X, the Solterra has also received a major performance boost. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive SUV now produces peak power of 252kW, although with no claim to peak torque, making it the most powerful mainstream Subaru ever.
AC charging power has also been increased from 11 kW to 22 kW, while DC fast charging remains unchanged at 150 kW, with an approximately 10-80 percent charging time of 30 minutes.
In addition, Subaru says it has introduced an intelligent adaptive torque system. According to the brand, the front engine’s torque is increased at corner entry to aid turn-in. This torque is increasingly shifted to the rear engine when cornering to improve balance, stability and traction during acceleration.
This is supported by slight chassis adjustments that are intended to improve driving comfort, especially in the rear seats.
Inside, the new Solterra gets Subaru’s first 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display, shared with the bZ4X, as well as a revised center console with dual 15W wireless phone chargers. Leatherette upholstery is standard, as is power front seat adjustment and heating.
Exterior two-tone paint finishes are available on the flagship Touring, while all models receive a redesigned body-colored front fascia and gloss black wheel arch trim (Overseas models were shown with body-color trim). Changes to the rear are minimal, although the six-star emblem has been replaced with new “SUBARU” lettering.
Interestingly, the Solterra has beaten its updated Toyota bZ4X sister model in Australia, which will bring many of the same improvements. This model is expected to hit the market before the end of the year.
Orders for the updated Solterra are now open. Subaru Australia confirmed this Daily Sparkz Earlier this month we announced that the vehicles would arrive in November, before deliveries to customers would begin immediately.
