MG addresses one of the main complaints made to the company MG4 small electric hatch.
The Chinese brand has unveiled a revised interior for its rear/all-wheel drive MG 4 in Brazil, bringing it in line with the mechanically related MG S5 EV small electric SUV.
The updated MG 4 does not appear to have undergone any external changes, with MG’s Brazilian branch using copied images of the current model on its website.
Unlike many mid-life updates, there weren’t even any changes to the wheel design, as those of the Essence and XPower were carried over before the update.

Inside, however, it’s radically different, with a layout borrowed from the MG S5 EV.
Brazil is a left-hand drive market and the new interior is not yet available on the websites of any of MG’s right-hand drive export markets.

The distinctive, high-mounted “tray” that housed the selector lever was removed, and the dial was now relocated to the center console near a cell phone charger.
The 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen have been replaced with larger 10.25-inch and 12.8-inch units, respectively.
Below the touchscreen is a more attractive array of physical switchgear, with what appears to be two buttons for adjusting fan speed and volume.
Both black and brown interior colors are shown on MG’s Brazilian website, and overall the interior appears softer and more inviting.
It’s unclear whether we’ll get a bright color scheme here, as all MG 4s sold in Australia currently have a black interior.
The redesigned interior is more similar to that of the new front-wheel drive MG 4, which will be available in Australia in the second quarter of 2026, although there are some key differences such as a smaller screen, a more integrated digital instrument cluster and different switches.
While it replaces the familiar MG 4 in some markets, in Australia this more curved hatch is instead used as a small, entry-level electric vehicle underneath.
It will be offered here with 43 kWh and 54 kWh batteries, while the existing MG 4 will only be available here with a larger 64 kWh battery. This will eliminate the 51 kWh base battery of the existing MG 4 and the 77 kWh battery of the Long Range in our market.
The existing MG 4 produces 150 kW of power from the 64 kWh battery, except in the all-wheel drive XPower version, which has a second electric motor for a total output of 320 kW and 600 Nm.
According to the Brazilian website, MG has not increased power or torque on either the standard 150kW variant (sold there in Comfort and Luxury trim levels) or the XPower.
The launch of a second MG 4 model in Australia could help the brand cement its presence in the small electric hatch segment.
By the end of November, MG had delivered 2901 MG 4s in Australia this year. That meant it was overtaken by the BYD Dolphin (2983), whose year-to-date decline of 52.3 percent almost matched its competitor’s 58.2 percent rise.
The GWM Ora is a distant third in the segment, with just 688 vehicles sold year to date – a decline of 41.8 percent.
