GWM has secured another plug-in hybrid off-roader for Australia.
The Tank 300 Hi4-T rubber will arrive here in the first quarter (January to March) of 2026, with pricing and specifications to be announced early next year.
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system will be the fourth powertrain available in the local Tank 300 range, alongside petrol, diesel and hybrid options, and the Chinese car brand’s third plug-in off-roader after the PHEV versions of the Cannon Alpha ute and the Tank 500 large off-road SUV, which were launched earlier this year.
It is unclear what price premium GWM will charge for the PHEV powertrain. The larger Tank 500 is currently only $4,000 between the Ultra Hybrid and the Ultra PHEV.

The Tank 300 range is currently priced at $56,990 for the Ultra Hybrid.
Like the Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha PHEVs, the Tank 300 Hi4-T features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission.
It also features a mechanical all-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case and limited-slip differentials, while offering the benefits of a PHEV, including the ability to run on pure electric power and power small electric devices using its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.
GWM advertises a braked towing capacity of 3000kg, which is equivalent to the Tank 500 PHEV but 500kg less than the Cannon Alpha PHEV.
While GWM doesn’t provide detailed information on performance or electric range, a look at the Chinese website shows that the Tank 300 Hi4-T uses a 37.1 kWh battery.
Its engine produces 180 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, while the electric motor produces 120 kW and 400 Nm. Overall, the system’s total output is 300 kW/750 Nm and the claimed acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 6.7 seconds.
Depending on the variant and state of charge, the stated fuel consumption in the WLTC cycle is between 2.06 and 8.8 l/100 km.
Like other Tank 300s, the PHEV features a double wishbone front axle and a non-independent multi-link rear suspension and is offered with off-road equipment such as crawl mode, tank turn function, various off-road modes and a surround-view camera with transparent chassis mode.
GWM is continuing to expand its range of electrified vehicles in Australia.
In addition to its only all-electric model, the Ora Hatch, there are PHEV versions of the Haval H6, Haval H6 GT, Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha, as well as hybrid versions of the Haval Jolion, Haval H6, Haval H7, Tank 300 and Tank 500.
In the first half of 2025, GWM was Australia’s third largest brand for hybrid sales and ranked fourth in total PHEV sales.
