2026 BYD Shark 6: Stronger, more powerful PHEV vehicle approaches Australia

An upgrade BYD Shark 6 The double cab model with a 3.5 tonne braked trailer and a plug-in hybrid powertrain with more power is about to be launched in Australia.

The more powerful plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute is now included in the Australian government’s certification documents, suggesting a local launch is not far away – although the timing has yet to be confirmed.

Daily Sparkz expects this new variant to be priced above the existing Shark 6 Premium, which is priced at $57,900 before on-road costs (and is currently offered at $57,900 on-road).

The more powerful Shark 6 features a 180kW 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with 200kW front and 150kW rear electric motors, for a total system output of 345kW.

In contrast, the current Shark 6 has a 135kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and 170kW and 150kW electric motors, for a total output of 321kW.

While the total output of the system only increases to 24 kW, the braked trailer load increases from 2,500 kg to 3,500 kg.
